I still can’t believe that I got Tom to go to the Thimbleweeds quilt show on Sunday. But it was a beautiful day: blue sky, a breeze, not too warm. And we needed to get out. But what finally got him was “And we can take the dog.” Tynan’s always up for a field trip.
We headed up to Rio Rancho where the Thimbleweed Quilters are based (about 20 minutes from the house). The Great Outdoor Quilt Show is held annually, but that doesn’t mean that it runs annually. If there’s one thing I’ve learned living here in New Mexico, it’s that spring can be a bit tricky. And almost always windy; windy enough to take down a quilt show. But not this year. So off we went.
Enjoy the pics. Sadly, there was no way for me to record the artists.
In the end, Tom agreed that checking out the Thimbleweeds’ quilts on a sunny, spring afternoon was a pleasant way to pass some time. And Tynan was a rock star! Lots of complements. Who says 9-year old dogs can’t be “cute”?
Now if the weather can just make it a repeat performance this coming weekend when High on Hooking’s 2017 selling season starts up again, this time at the ABQ Recycled Art Fair. If you’re in the area, please stop by and say hi. Mention this blog post and I’ll give you a 10% discount. See you there!
It could be a little quilt. and, there are tactile things and ideas that translate and
are different at the same time, too…like layering. In quilting you can do it, in rug hooking
you have to imply it….
Yes, nice point. Aren’t you supposed to be getting ready to leave… ๐ Safe travels to you all!
Hey – did you just get snow? Our former home in CO got a lot and I couldn’t quite tell if you were getting it too!
Sounds like a fun day. A town in CO used to do that and hung the quilts off of the downtown stores. It was quite a sight. One year my quilt won viewers choice.
So your busy season starts, huh? I am waaaay behind in my gardening and I have to work on that and some tie dyed shirts for a meeting next week. More about that later…
The mountains that line the east side of the city got plenty of snow, 8-12 inches. We had some slush while we slept and then a little more with hail and even more rain as the show opened. Sun eventually came out yesterday, but not warm. Freakish given all the warm weather the past 3 months. Last week’s quilt show had gorgeous weather! Today we woke to sun and 34 degrees. Shot up into the 50s pretty quickly, but lots of Albuquerque spring wind. By about 1 or 2 the wind was a bit warmer, still kept that sweatshirt but could take off the fleece vest. ๐ Pollen and Fiesta, teaching, and this show have kept me from the garden. Oh, and trying to figure out how to garden this year what with the eventual heat. We’re going to go away for a four or five days too (Colorado), in July, we hope, so that’s an issue with watering. I have rug camp with Cheryl Bollenbach this Fri-Sun. Sunday Tom ‘s daughter comes, then next SUnday, his son. Fiesta starts right after he leaves. I will be so happy when Fiesta is over. June’s gonna be for breathing and sleeping…
Oh my! You are a busy bee!
I so can’t wait for May to be over! Hoping to take a few days in Colorado in July – after Tom’s jury duty ends!
