I’m back! It’s only been a couple of weeks, but I feel kind of better even if I didn’t make it back to friends and family in New England. (For that story, see this post.) Anyway, Tom and I and the dog did manage to take a couple of day trips. The first was up to north of Taos near the ski area. We hiked for a couple of hours then picked up lunch in the very cool, little village of Arroyo Seco. Tom counted every one of the 19 stream crossings that we did in that two hours. But both of us had dry feet – quite the balancing act! – at the end. Tynan, he just forded through them all. Why should he care if he gets wet? Or muddy? Or what happens to the car when he gets back in?
Last week the three of us headed to Los Alamos via the Jemez Mountains. We’d never taken that drive in the fall. Gorgeous! Thus far one of my favorite parts of New Mexico. We didn’t hike this time; we wanted to get home before Albuquerque’s rush hour traffic. But we managed lunch in Los Alamos. It was a good day.
Meanwhile I’m busily trying to finish up small and mug-type rugs to sell at the High Desert Studio Tour (scroll down through the page to the part about the tour) this coming Saturday. If you recall, my friend Dagmar of ZiaWoolz invited me again this year to sell at her house/studio. She’s #3 on the map. If you’re in the area, come hang out with us for a bit. I’ll have chocolate!
What I don’t sell at Dag’s I hope to unload sell at Santa Fe’s Fall Fiber Fiesta at the Scottish Rite Temple come November 17-19. The 17th is an artists’ reception in the evening, 5:00-8:00, costs $10. Saturday and Sunday hours are 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, no charge. Unless you buy something, of course. ๐ย Hope you stop by there too to pick up some gifts for the quickly approaching holidays. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just over two weeks away!
Lastly, Tynan did not forget to bring you this week’s “What’s on the frame” feature. Of course, he received his commission. God forbid I forget that. Talk to you next week!
I hope you sold lots! You are making such fun designs. It was Open Studios weekend in Greenville and we went to a few places on Sunday. I keep thinking I should get my butt in gear to open my Etsy shop or enter a fair but then I think “hooking? weaving? quilting? all of the above?”. It woul be so much easier if I did one or even two crafts!
Speaking of hooking I’ve found a class that I really want to take at Sauder next year! Registration is this week so I have to get on it. The woman (Ellen Banker) does really interesting samplers, and I actually drew one out several years ago. I am now wondering where I put it…
I read the description of that class, Deb. Sounds interesting. My guild already scheduled Sharon Smith for next September and Donna Hrkman for April, 2019, PLUS I hear we’ve been tapped to help with the 2019 ATHA Biennial in Denver too. So lots of hooking events in our future here. Not a ton of traffic Saturday, more last year, but a good time was still to be had. Dag is like a rock star in the fiber community here, so a lot of folks stopped in.And I managed to work too. ๐ Getting ready for this weekend. Still have hooking to do and other prep work. Can’t wait for Sunday evening and it all to be over! (PS – We both need to get an ETSY shop up soon!)
Sharon Smith????? I love her work and I’d love to take a class to see how she does with color what she does. The photo on the latest RH magazine was unfortunate though; way too close. Makes Santa look freaky. Donna is good. My IL guild had her. I was kind of doing my own thing and didn’t get as much help as I would have liked, but the others did some amazing faces.
So…why don’t you consider coming out for the class, Deb? You can stay here at my house. Really. SHe’s going to be stressing her “painterly style.” You know, I really don’t like to do any overtly Christmas rugs. Just mug rugs really. And only to sell them at this time of year. Rugs take so long to make; why limit there being out to a month or 6 weeks at most? But Sharon’s Santa. I noticed it last year in some publication, and I love it! Am even thinking of buying a pattern for once. ๐ (And I agree; the lighting on the magazine cover is bad.)
Oh gosh! Thanks so much. I would love that – but we have signed up for another river cruise in September. We will meet. Pete and I are talking about a CO trip as his brother will never visit us in SC….. We love driving to Santa Fe, so weโll see.
Check out her other patterns. I rarely buy them either, but she has a very quirky sense of humor. There are several I like….
Sorry to be so tardy with a response, Deb, but just getting to my emails and such after the Fall Fiber Fiesta up in Santa Fe. Am exhausted with the three days and all the commuting, but it was well worth it. Some interesting happenings and all kinds of great inspiration. Will eventually get to them in a post, but not this week. Too much going on with Thanksgiving, all the things I put off getting ready, and some dental work. Fun! Local friends are coming Thursday, sharing the cooking, but I need to clean what hasn’t been cleaned in a few weeks. ๐ I envy you the rive cruise. Would love to do one of those. Tom and I celebrate 25 years in 2018, trying to come up with a BIG trip, but have to deal with the kid too. We’ll see. Yes, yell if you’re coming out this way. We will meet!
