If you’ve been on my calendar page, you would’ve noticed something pretty amazing. I’ve been invited to teach at HGA’s biennial Convergence next July in Wichita. I know, it’s freaking amazing. Years back, when Convergence was in Providence, Rhode Island, I attended the general exhibits and marketplace. Did I have any idea what the Handweavers Guild of America is? Absolutely not! I’d seen a BIG fiber arts event advertised and I wanted in. Luckily for me, a local gallery decided to have a rug hooking show concurrently. Freaking awesome! Then Tom took me out for an excellent seafood dinner. A perfect day.
Fast forward maybe 10 years. During Covid, I, like many, started to follow Textiles and Tea on Zoom. I learned about HGA. Then I attended a couple of online events. The Adobe Wool Arts Guild joined HGA as an associate guild so we could take part in some meetings. You meet people. You chat about the state of fiber arts… It all culminated in me taking a chance and proposing a rug hooking class for next year’s Convergence. And they said YES! I’m honored and very excited. It’s a day-long intro workshop. I love teaching folks coming from other fiber arts backgrounds. They make for the most interesting students, exposing me to more than I expose them to.
In October and November, HGA is hosting talks by each leader (instructor) on Zoom to introduce members and other interested folks to the 150 or so workshops and lectures that will be happening. You know, to entice folks to register. My day is Thursday, November 16. It happens at 1:00 PM Eastern. You can find out more about those sessions HERE. They end just before Thanksgiving, but they’re recorded. Find them on YouTube.
Like I said. there are LOTS of classes on all kinds of things having to do with fiber arts – weaving and beyond. Check out what’s available, then maybe I’ll see you in Kansas!
